How to setup microscope, chair, Table for your first surgical case- Dr Sourabh Patwardhan. First look at the microscope type, configuration, on off switch, type of arms, balancing the microscope. set the eye piece. set your IPD. while adjusting IPD, go from higher to lower IPD. Next adjust your eyepieces, tiltable eye pieces are best. for non tiltable eye pieces, there is an option of tilting the microscope head. Ideally yes should be in primary position. next adjust the illumination in microscope. check the options of getting diffuse plus retro, only retro or without retro illumination. is it on the knob or in foot pedal. adjust the table height. the working distance in most microscopes is 20 cm. hand rest may be useful for long surgeries. patients head position- chin should be slightly up, you can tilt the head to one side if you are working from head position. keep the foot switch at a comfortable angle and distance. chair unit- locking of the chair during surgery should be done. foot wear - you can use water proof socks.
