Dr Sourabh D Patwardhan FRCS MD AIIMS speaks about thought process behind safe chopping. Is a sharp instrument really needed? we know that a sharp chopper is useful for hard catarcts, but the same job can be done by a blunt instrument also. For chopping, hold on the nucleus is more important than the instrument in the left hand. Infact in harder cataracts, we can take the blunter sinskey to deeper planes to separate the posterior plate without the risk of PCR.
